Hello, my name is Bernadette Smith

I am the Regional Literacy Coordinator for Galway and Roscommon. My role involves working with communities and organisations to help people identify their needs and find resources to fulfill them.

I work within the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB). The GRETB have a range of courses available for people to return to learning at all levels. In GRETB people can get help with reading, writing, math's, and computer skills. This empowers people and communities to make a real difference in their lives.

Using plain language guidelines, I can help organisations improve communication methods to make them clear and accessible for their user.

Meet your Galway and Roscommon Literacy Coalition

The ALL strategy offers a cross-government, cross-society and cross economic approach. To make this possible, I set up a Regional Adult Literacy Coalition with members from a cross section of Government groups. The coalition will give power to people with unmet literacy needs by offering the opportunity to carve out a place for themselves in the world. They will do this by increasing capacity in literacy classes, making these accessible to all and creating a more literacy friendly environment.
