Limerick City and County Library
About this project
This project had three goals:
improve understanding of AI technologies to prevent digital divides,
promote responsible AI usage, critical thinking and digital literacy to counter misinformation, and
provide access to AI education for learners with limited digital literacy skills.
It took place in Clare libraries, Limerick City and County libraries and in community education classes within the LCETB.
More about this project
Facilitators developed two action streams to make AI learning a form of digital citizenship.
Stream 1 focused on AI integration in community education:
Workshops allowed guests to give their input on how AI learning could be incorporated into courses. Additional workshops covered safe AI usage.
A briefing workshop equipped community educators with the skills to integrate AI in their teaching.
Facilitators built a GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) chatbot to help teachers imbed AI in their classes.
Stream 2 focused on AI usage in everyday life:
AI beginner workshops in Limerick and Clare libraries covered AI usage on smartphones, tablets and other devices. Local experts and educators addressed AI safety, bias, and the dangers of misinformation.
