“I had a great experience while on the Introduction to Barista course at St Marys Adult Education, the hands-on teaching approach created a fun learning environment which also gave me a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that I can build on into the future. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who loves coffee to give it a try.”- Learner
This project provided Barista training to unskilled and unemployed individuals to help them find work in the hospitality sector.
Six separate classes ran for four weeks each over the academic year. Six learners attended each class and gained work experience in a community coffee shop provided by Limerick Island Community Partners (LICP).
The tutor is a trained chef and the course is delivered in a community kitchen created by the Reach fund.
The project used industry standard equipment to help learners see what it's like to work in the hospitality sector.
These classes provided an invaluable service by helping the most vulnerable people in the community find sustainable and meaningful employment.
Participants now hope to attend other courses provided by Limerick and Clare ETB.

This project was a collaboration between St Marys Community Adult Education Group and Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
