“A lot of it is personal development in a therapeutic way and connecting with the artistic side of people’s brain.” - Tommo Reilly, drama facilitator and Director of the immersive play
This project provided a documentary about an immersive play that was performed in Soilse. It used performance art as a means to explore issues related to addiction, homelessness, and mental health.
Filming took place in Soilse in June 2024. The film crew conducted numerous interviews with performers and experts in the field of addiction.
An immersive play is a great way for learners to use scripts to improve their reading and writing skills. Some cast members had real difficulties with literacy and others had dyslexia. Literacy support was provided so that they could learn their lines.
The documentary was screened to staff and service users at Soilse upon completion and feedback was very positive.
The documentary is an excellent tool for people recovering from addiction, their family members, and individuals still suffering from addiction.
Soilse will grant access to the documentary for free to other professionals in the area of addiction and educational institutions.
