"This course highlights the natural habitats we’ve been blessed with here in Clonakilty. We all need to work together to protect these amenities.”- Participant
This project aimed to promote environmental engagement in Clonakilty, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Adult Literacy for All (ALL) Strategy. Workshops, tailored to the town's needs, explored urgent environmental issues while looking at sustainability.
The project took place in Clonakilty town and ran from September to December 2024. A series of four public workshops followed a launch event in September.
200 learners were directly involved. They included older persons, disabled individuals, migrants, members of the Travelling community, and representatives from the business and voluntary sectors.
Workshops covered issues like biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable practices and included very interesting visuals and discussions.
Learners showed a strong interest and commitment to tackling biodiversity loss, environmental risks, and climate change.
This project encouraged broad community engagement by bringing diverse groups of people together.
Workshops increased awareness about Clonakilty’s unique natural habitats, while highlighting threats like pollution, waste and biodiversity loss.
Participants identified practical actions for environmental protection, which empowered individuals and the community to adopt sustainable practices.
This project set the stage for future education and awareness courses focusing on biodiversity protection, waste reduction, and environmental risks.
