Creative Ways to Develop Language in North Clare

Creative English language training for migrants and senior citizens.

Group Shot

"It is such a happy and friendly (drama) class. It teaches us to show our feelings. We talk about the history of Ukraine and how we live now in Ireland. There are many emotions in this class including fear and happiness. We face our fears in this class and show another side of ourselves.” Quote from participant

This project provided English lessons to hundreds of learners in Clare between August and December 2023. The Pavilion Town Hall hosted English classes in a fun and relaxed environment for refugees living in Lisdoonvarna.

200 migrants and senior learners took part in various workshops and classes over four months. Activities included drama classes, music classes, cookery classes, arts and crafts, and Nordic walking.

This project empowered community members and supported various well-being initiatives. Above all, it gave people something to look forward to during the winter months. There has been a huge demand for each class to run again in 2024.

Nordic Walking

"The (music) classes are beautiful. I have learned one tune already. I hope to learn more and play better. We even practice our English in the class when we are talking with the tutor. I love learning more about Irish culture." Quote from participant

This project was the result of a collaboration between Lisdoonvarna Fáilte and Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB).
