This project was a collaboration between Mayo County Library and Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board.
This project aimed to provide one-on-one digital literacy training to adults in Mayo.
77 people attended one-to-one sessions in nine library branches across Mayo between October and December 2024. The library branches were: Castlebar, Ballina, Westport, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, Ballyhaunis, Crossmolina, Belmullet and Swinford.
Sessions covered functional digital literacy skills like downloading apps, safe online shopping, cybersecurity, and setting up controls on digital devices.
Sessions covered the following topics:
- setting up and accessing social media accounts and using WhatsApp,
- setting up online shopping accounts and adding items to baskets,
- deleting photos, videos, and files for more phone storage space, and
- filling in online forms.
Sessions covered functional digital literacy skills like downloading apps, safe online shopping, cybersecurity, and setting up controls on digital devices.
Participants feel more confident and empowered to use digital technology on their own.
Additional collaborations during the project included numeracy sessions for toddlers and school-aged children.

The Adult Literacy for Life Collaboration and Innovation Fund
The Collaboration and Innovation Fund supports projects for adults with unmet literacy, numeracy and digital literacy needs and projects that support organisations to be literacy friendly. The closing date for 2024 applications has now passed but keep an eye out for information on our 2025 fund which will be launched in December.
