‘I resat the test 3 weeks later and passed! Thank you for your encouragement and positive advice”- Learner
This project aimed to address unmet literacy and digital literacy needs through a class-based driver test theory course. Inishowen is a rural area with poor public transport networks. Having access to your own transport is key to allow individuals to access education and employment. This programme helped participants reach their personal and employment goals so that they can take part in society.
The Drive to Thrive programme was delivered in two locations:
the Buncrana Course ran from August 19th to October 8th, and
the Carndonagh Course ran from September 6th to 25th October.
The project covered:
digital literacy through online learning on the RSA Driver Theory Test App, and
basic literacy through structured classes, led by a literacy tutor.
Learners improved their employability skills by obtaining their provisional licence. Having a provisional licence will help them get a step closer to removing a huge barrier to employment. It will also allow them to widen their net and look for employment outside of their local area.
By coming together on a weekly basis, learners from various backgrounds greatly improved their confidence and social skills.
