Enhancing literacy through circle dancing

Improving literacy through the arts and creativity

Learners attending a dance and movement class

The project partners were

  • Waterford women’s centre/Access 2000

  • St. Brigid’s family resource centre

About this project

This project enhanced literacy through a creative, multi-sensory programme. It combined circle dancing, reflection, vocabulary development, reading aloud, and collaborative writing.

The project used circle dancing as a pathway into literacy, linking movement, emotion, language, reflection, and writing. It supported learners to express feelings, expand vocabulary, read aloud, and create a collective poem.
