“As a migrant volunteer, I really enjoyed providing the training particularly being in a position where I impacted someone’s knowledge. I noted that some of the things we take for granted can be a huge challenge to others and this has also impacted my view of the world” - Victor Nzewi Ikechukwu, Volunteer tutor
This project made digital literacy accessible to older migrants in Galway. Age Action delivered volunteer-led digital skills training to older migrants in a migrant-friendly space. Volunteer tutors from various backgrounds were also trained on the needs of older migrants.
Four learners attended the course in Age Action premises in Galway City. An additional four volunteer tutors were also trained on how to deliver the course.
This project was innovative in that it provided a migrant-friendly space. This encouraged older migrants to improve their digital literacy at their own pace in an open and inclusive environment. This limited any language or cultural barriers to learning.
Older migrants were supported to achieve a foundational understanding of digital literacy over five weeks. Volunteer training will be made available to another 600 volunteers in due course.
This project was a collaboration between Age Action and Faith Christian Fellowship Ministry Galway (FCFMG).
