About this project

This project helped adult learners to access, understand,  and use health information and services to improve their own well-being.

It combined health literacy, public library  access and expert-led health education in a community setting. Facilitators received literacy awareness training to make health information easier to understand and use.

Multiple health, education, local authority and community partners jointly developed,  promoted,  and delivered the programme.

30 workshops took place in five libraries in Wexford, Gorey, New Ross,  Bunclody  and Enniscorthy. Sessions were 90 minutes long and ran weekly over six-week blocks.

Topics included

  • smoking and vaping,

  • alcohol awareness,

  • physical activity,

  • healthy eating,

  • mental health and wellbeing, and

  • cancer awareness.
