Raising literacy awareness among library staff in Cavan

About this project

 This project aimed to raise awareness in library staff about unmet literacy needs among library  users. It equipped library staff with the skills and knowledge to support these needs.  

The project

  • supported staff participation in podcasts and presentations to promote literacy services,  

  • developed a checklist of literacy supports and new dyslexia-friendly book collections, and  

  • introduced Literacy Champions in the library staff network.

 Facilitators delivered training to Cavan Library Services staff.

They received

  • plain kanguage training with NALA,

  • reviewed website and social media content for plain language compliance,

  • reviewed signage and promotional materials,

  • developed plain language resources, and

  • strengthened collaboration with Cavan and Monaghan ETB.

Tutors provided insights into services and events such as crossword groups, scrabble clubs, writing clubs, and adult guidance sessions.
