About this project
Manage My Home helped migrants and people applying for international protection learn practical life skills for living independently.
It focused on people who were about to leave or had just left supported accommodation centres.
The aim was to help participants build two key skills:
financial skills- how to make and manage a household budget, and
digital skills- how to use online services and budgeting tools.
More about this project
The course ran for six weeks and was delivered in five locations across the county.
Classes took place in Further Education and Training (FET) Centres or local community centres. This allowed participants to practise digital skills such as online banking and using budgeting tools. The final class included a guest speaker from one relevant organisation such as Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS), Citizens Information Services (CIS) or the Community Garda.
English language tutors supported both the literacy tutor and the participants each week to help overcome language barriers.
