“Every mum was so proud of themselves for finishing the course”- Facilitator
This project helped single parents complete an accredited programme. The course gave learners the skills and confidence to achieve long term goals in life, education, and work.
The project took place at the Anew Hub in Pearse Street every Wednesday between June and November 2024.
Eight parents took part in and completed the programme.
Learners completed a written portfolio, which helped them develop their literacy and presentation skills.
Participants could access the Learn with NALA platform online, which improved their digital literacy skills.
A workbook included a section on personal finances and templates for managing daily spending and budgeting. This allowed some parents to set themselves weekly budgeting goals.
Facilities in Haven House gave mothers and children the space to learn with a sense of ease and comfort.
Building confidence: this course allowed mothers to focus on their strengths and reflect on their personal achievements in raising their children.
Peer support: the course gave mothers a safe and supportive environment. It allowed them to feel a sense of belonging and to feel heard and understood.
Access to further education: participants had access to educational officers and career guidance coordinators, who helped learners pursue their further education and training goals.
Financial support: facilitators provided learners with a full breakfast, lunch, and leap cards. They also provided baby essentials throughout the course.
Weekly routine: the course gave learners a sense of structure to their week. Participants said it was the one day they looked forward to the most. Wednesday was their happy day.
