Numeracy Meets Practitioner Pack

Professional development programme for adult numeracy practitioners.

“Excellent opportunity to meet others and share practice, sometimes numeracy can be the forgotten element of FET provision, so it's great to see the spotlight being shone through the Numeracy-Meets initiative.” Quote from participant

This project created a professional development programme for numeracy practitioners. Numeracy-Meets allowed practitioners to organise informal meetings to share personal insights about teaching adult numeracy.

168 people attended six workshops between September and December 2023. Workshops allowed practitioners from various support networks to talk with one another. Each workshop focused on how to teach numeracy to vulnerable groups, like people with dyscalculia, Travellers, or prisoners.

The project team compiled material from each workshop to make a Practitioner Pack. This pack included recordings of each workshop, a newsletter, and an accompanying video.

Practitioners said they really enjoyed sharing their experience in teaching numeracy with other tutors. Workshops gave them a valuable opportunity to pool their resources and share ideas.

"The feeling of being supported was fantastic, joining the meeting every two weeks was a lovely way to stay in touch with others in the field. The tech side of things was easy to access, everything was so well organized and the linked literature was great. Will join you again next year, Thank you.” Quote from participant

This project was the result of a collaboration between the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), University of Limerick, and Cork Education and Training Board (CETB).
