Numeracy Workshop: Defining, Identifying, and Teaching Numeracy to Adult Learners

Real-life numeracy: what it means and strategies for teaching it.

Workshop information

Join us for an engaging and thought-provoking workshop that will explore the concept of numeracy and its vital role in adult education. This session will look at how numeracy differs from mathematics, with examples of real-life context for adult learners.

Dr. Fiona Faulkner and Dr. Niamh O'Meara will provide models designed to help identify numeracy in everyday life. The workshop will also introduce effective strategies and teaching approaches tailored to support adult learners in developing their numeracy skills with confidence and relevance.

Whether you're an educator, tutor, or involved in adult learning policy or support, this workshop will provide valuable insights and tools to enhance your practice.

Attendees will also receive information about the upcoming ‘Numeracy Meets’ Professional Learning and Development (PLD) workshops —an excellent opportunity to continue exploring and strengthening numeracy teaching in a collaborative, supportive environment.

This workshop will be delivered by Dr. Fiona Faulkner (Lecturer, Technological University Dublin) and Dr. Niamh O'Meara (Lecturer, University of Limerick).
