“This course was excellent from beginning to end. Every aspect of this course was well thought out and well delivered."- Learner

This was a collaborative project involving six home school community liaison coordinators, post-primary schools, and six family resource centres. It aimed to empower parents by integrating literacy, numeracy, and digital skills into home improvement activities.

The course took place in Glenties Comprehensive, Moville College, Finn Valley College, Deele College, Carrick College, and Errigal College between October and November 2024.

50 participants engaged in hands-on learning by covering topics such as using DIY tools, safety measures, and basic repairs. Participants greatly improved their literacy and numeracy skills by using written instructions and measuring tools and documents.

Parents documented their progress through photos and videos, which culminated in a final group project showcasing their work. Learners made new friends and are now looking forward to attending further adult courses together.

The project made education more engaging and relevant. It encouraged lifelong learning, promoted self-sufficiency in home repairs, and strengthened the connection between home and school.
