‘This course is a great way to learn new skills and meet new people! ’- Learner
This project used hands-on gardening with digital learning to build literacy skills. The project also aimed to boost self-esteem, improve digital literacy, and create a sense of community.
This project took place in the Family Resource Centre, Dara Park, between September and December 2024. Nine learners from the Newbridge community attended classes.
Tutors adapted learning materials to suit each person. They created a supportive learning environment.
Participants gained practical knowledge, developed their digital literacy skills, and improved their mental health.
Learners created a digital plant journey book. From planting seeds to harvesting crops, each page in the book represents one step in the learning journey.
By combining horticulture and digital technology, the project offered a unique and engaging learning experience. This approach helped learners to build practical and digital skills. It also allowed a wide range of learner needs to be met.
The project ensured that all participants, regardless of their literacy levels, could engage and benefit from the experience.
The digital plant journey book celebrates the participants' skills and engagement. It was a fun way to encourage storytelling and communication skills.
This project was a collaboration between Newbridge Family Resource Centre, Newbridge Library, and HSE EVE, Platinum Clubhouse.
