Profession Specific Literacy

Childcare literacy course for refugees in Tralee.

Course Participants

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have an English course. It was useful and helpful." Quote from participant

The course took place in Rahoonane Community Centre in Tralee between October and December 2023. A volunteer coordinator taught ten students who were shortlisted based on their English language needs.

Learners found the course very informative and hope to attend more childcare courses in future. The course will allow them to take part in work placement schemes where they can perfect their English skills. The North East West Kerry Development Programme (NEWKD) will find job placements for every learner who attended the course.

Childcare Literacy Class

“The courses were useful for me, I’ve learnt about preschool and practised my English a lot. I’d love to attend more English classes.” Quote from participant

This project is the result of a collaboration between The North East West Kerry Development Programme (NEWKD), Rahoonane Community Centre, and Kerry Education and Training Board (KETB).
