“It's of great benefit just to sit down with someone and just chat.”- Volunteer tutor

This project aim was to develop video resources that promote adult literacy through English conversation in the SECAD Partnership area. These areas include Youghal, Cobh, Macroom, and Millstreet.

This project took place between August and November 2024 in various locations. Filming took place in Youghal, Cobh, Macroom Pitch and Putt Club, Millstreet Parish Hall, and the film makers studio in Carrigtwohill.

The project produced eight one-minute-long promotional videos featuring English Conversation Clubs. Each video showcased the positive experiences of volunteers and participants who attend courses and participate in the various clubs.

These videos will inspire volunteer tutors and learners to attend conversation clubs in the coming months and years. The project has inspired around 107 learners and 76 volunteer tutors so far.

These videos will bring about a more literacy friendly society by encouraging people to attend English Conversation Clubs. They will help raise awareness and inspire locals to join conversation clubs either as learners or tutors.
