Tech Champions

Improving digital literacy skills among GAA members.

Tech Champion course flyer

This project was a collaboration between Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ETB and Fingallians GAA Club.

This project addressed unmet digital needs among GAA members, especially elderly members. As the GAA now relies on apps to sell tickets, older members risk being excluded as a result. Classes focused on improving their digital literacy skills so that everyone can stay in the game.

Four learners attended the course, which took place in Fingallians club house on Saturday mornings between September and October 2024.

Classes covered important topics, like online safety, shopping, banking, and how to use apps like Ticketmaster and ClubzApp.

Organisers created a guidebook, which learners can bring home for further consultation.

Local and national GAA clubs can use this IT course to help members with their digital skills.

Learners reported a huge improvement in their digital literacy thanks to the course. Older club members, who had little or no IT skills, can now use QR codes to gain admission to matches.
