This workshop will share the thesis and grounding practice of Dr. Lána McCarthy, lecturer at the Literacy Development Centre (LDC) at South East Technological University (SETU).
Engaging parents in family literacy programmes to support their child's development can enhance social, academic and behavioural outcomes for children. Despite these known advantages, research has shown that engaging parents in interventions can be difficult.
Dr. Lána McCarthy will run a workshop at the Literacy Changing Lives showcase in Croke Park on Monday 16 June.
This workshop is based on her research, focusing on the dance of engagement theory. Her research aims to show that parental engagement with family literacy programmes in marginalised communities enhances children’s lives and wellbeing. It presents a real opportunity to transform family literacy outcomes for children and families.
Join Lána on the day to see how you can bring this theory into your everyday practice in family literacy.
