About this project

This project aimed to see whether the WordsWorthLearning (WWL) programme, which improves literacy through unique reading and spelling rules, could help adults experiencing homelessness.

The WordsWorthLearning (WWL) programme gives learners tools and strategies that build literacy skills and deliver life-changing benefits.

Project partners worked together to gather evidence regarding the potential effectiveness of WWL when delivered to this target group.

More about this project

UCC, Cork Simon staff,  learners,  and the WordsWorthLearning  developer worked together on delivery,  evaluation  and dissemination.

UCC managed the research, assessments,  interviews and analysis. Cork Simon recruited participants, provided space and tablets,  and supported learner mentoring.

In-person delivery took place twice weekly for four weeks, with daily 15-minute one-on-one sessions.

Data collected during this project indicates that the target cohort are likely to accept the WordsWorthLearning programme. This research also identified factors that can improve future implementation of the programme.
