About this project
This Traveller-led project brought tutors together to plan and develop a Traveller culture and identity training package. This package will improve cultural awareness in local services and education settings.
The project aimed to support members of the Traveller community to build skills and confidence to deliver Traveller Culture and Identity Training to various organisations. Participants were supported with literacy and digital literacy throughout the programme.
The course was delivered through in-person, interactive workshops. Participants took part in role play, presentations, audio activities and group work. These activities helped build their confidence with digital skills, public speaking and communication.
Tutors worked together with participants to create a training pack and toolkit that is clear, practical and easy to use.
The project helps fill a gap in cultural awareness training for organisations working with the Traveller community in the Mid-West. Participants are now ready to deliver this training using the training pack and presentation slides created through the programme.
More about this project
As the project was led by Travellers, participants felt the topics reflected their own lived experiences. They talked about discrimination and the lack of chances in education and work, which can seriously affect Traveller mental health and self-esteem. Clare Traveller CDP provided a safe, supportive space where people could share real experiences and support one another.
