About this project
This project delivered The Way of Life course, a money management programme designed by and for Travellers through the National Traveller MABS programme. It was delivered in partnership with Teach na nDaoine Family Resource Centre and built on the strong relationship between the Family Resource Centre and the Traveller community. Its overall aim was to promote financial confidence, independence, informed decision-making, and wellbeing.
The course took place over seven weeks in late 2025 at Gortakeegan Community Centre in Monaghan.
Participants received guidance on:
Budgeting
Tracking income and expenditure
Avoiding debt
Recognising financial abuse
Accessing benefits

The programme helped participants develop practical money management skills improving engagement with financial and community services.
Practical tools such as spending diaries, budgeting wallets, savings jars, savings charts, and how to guides, supported learning and encouraged participants to continue activities at home with their children.
Scam awareness resources were incorporated, and accessibility supports such as pen readers and magnifiers were provided.
Teach na nDaoine FRC and National Traveller MABS provided learners with a range of learning materials and supports, including booklets, informational leaflets, online resources, and practical learning tools.
