“That water is the best thing to drink and stay hydrated and to keep an eye on the colour of wee.” - Learner
We all need drinking water to stay healthy. We should all have access to drinking water.
Research shows that when people drink less water when they don’t have easy access to tap water easily. They also spend more on other drinks and may face health problems.
It can be hard to find free, good-quality drinking water in public places in Dublin. Uisce Cliste is the Irish for “clever water”. This project aimed to make it easier for everyone in Cherry Orchard and Ballyfermot areas to get free, clean, safe drinking water.
It is important to make sure free, clean drinking water is publicly available. This helps to improve health outcomes, especially for people in disadvantaged communities.
The participants on this project helped to design, develop and create solutions for free public access to clean drinking water in their community. Participants on the Uisce Cliste project improved their understanding and behavior in healthy water drinking.
Uisce Cliste was successful because it included the local community in designing their own solutions.

“I now understand the specific benefits of hydration on my health, how much water I should be drinking based on factors like activity level and climate, and the impact of hydration on things like digestion, skin health and energy levels.” - Parent
