Using VR technology to support jobseekers

Helping learners use virtual reality to prepare for interviews

The project partners were:

  • City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB)

  • Ballymun Jobcentre

About this project

The project team bought virtual reality headsets and software for use in the literacy service in Ballymun. Tutors and non-teaching staff were trained in using the equipment. A training manual was produced for tutors as well.

Facilitators tested this technology with learners attending the Job Club programme. The project demonstrated the wide-ranging benefits of the use of virtual reality in the classroom.

More about this project

The project managed to:

  • integrate VR in the Job Club Programme,

  • roll out VR assisted workshops to test this new learning method with students, and

  • train tutors in Ballymun Adult Literacy Service to embed this technology into work practices.

This project also fostered a closer working relationship between Ballymun Job Centre and City of Dublin Further Education and Training College in Ballymun. The hardware and software can be adapted for many programmes in future. Virtual Reality has the potential to record student learning outcomes, which could be used as part of their QQI submissions.
