Supporting digital literacy needs among the elderly in Durrus.

Young man showing older person how to use touch screen

This project was a collaboration between Durrus and District Community Council and Muintir Bhaire Mens Group.

This project improved digital literacy skills thanks to a large screen that displays instructions on how to use different devices. Older generations living in isolation often struggle to access basic I.T knowledge in Durrus. Tutors and learners are addressing these needs by putting the screen to great use almost every day.

Facilitators purchased the screen in the summer of 2024. Over 50 older adults use the screen on a regular basis in the Durrus Community Centre.

The screen has proven very helpful to local ETB staff. It helps with the delivery of digital literacy courses, among many other subjects.

Regular film nights promote greater social interaction.

The screen helped improve I.T. awareness and social interaction in an isolated community.

It enables community members to keep up to date with technology.
