We Can! Women's Health Across The Lifespan

Improving health literacy among women in Newbridge.

Course flyer

"For the first time in a while, I felt heard and valued. The facilitators made it a safe space to talk about topics that are often overlooked.”- Learner

This project ran a series of workshops that focused on improving women’s health literacy. The course provided women with unmet literacy needs support in improving their health literacy skills.

This project took place in Newbridge Library and the Riverbank Art Centre between late September and late November 2024. 12 participants completed the program, which ran for 8 weeks and included seven workshops.

Workshops covered the following topics:

  • Menstrual Health. Yoga and Breathing for a Healthy Cycle.

  • Peri Menopause & Menopause. Yoga and Breathing for Menopause Health.

  • Nutrition and Cooking Demonstration

  • Beating Osteoporosis with Nutrition and Exercise.

  • Resilience and Wellbeing.

  • Biofield Tuning and Cacao Ceremony.

All workshops included active elements, such as movement, breathwork, exercise, cooking demonstrations, mindful colouring, and sound therapy.

Newbridge Library organised great facilitators, designed easy-to-read posters and flyers, and provided literacy friendly journals and stationery.

Guest speakers made their presentations accessible and literacy friendly by using visual aids, simplified language, and physical demonstrations.

This programme was a great way for learners to start building confidence in their learning. Many participants previously felt excluded from formal education. Participants now feel more comfortable and confident in using resources.

The project created a safe space where women felt comfortable taking part in discussions and asking questions. This empowered them to take charge of their health and wellbeing.
