This project consisted of workshops and talks on the topics of health and wellbeing. Many people find health information difficult to understand and lack confidence to seek help or ask what something means. The aim of Well Westmeath was to deliver health information in plain English.

The Well Westmeath programme had two main strands. Each strand took place over 10 weeks and the workshop and public talk topics complemented each other each week. Both strands took place in two locations, Athlone and Mullingar Libraries, from September to early December 2024. 21 participants attended the workshops and 140 attended the public talks.

The first strand was a series of workshops on topics related to health and wellbeing. The workshops were held with a closed group of participants who were recruited from local active retirement groups.

The second strand was a series of public talks and workshops on topics related to health and wellbeing. These talks were ‘stand-alone’ talks that any member of the public could attend.

This course helped people to better understand health related advice and information given to them. Participants were empowered to fully engage with health services and now have more confidence to voice concerns and ask questions.

Improved digital literacy, literacy, and numerical literacy encourages people to engage with healthcare services. This programme ultimately improved the quality of people’s interactions in healthcare and lifestyle settings.
