“This project gave me the confidence to start learning again. I never thought I would enjoy education, but now I do.”- Learner

This project aimed to promote education and learning in the Traveller community. It provided an entry point for learners to re-engage with education while building confidence and practical skills.

The project successfully engaged 12 Traveller women, helping them establish learning goals and build literacy, digital, and practical skills.

This project linked in with Kerry Travellers Health and Community Development project to engage women who had not previously participated in adult literacy programmes.

The tutor worked with the women to ensure culturally relevant content, providing a 'hook' to encourage participation and foster lifelong learning habits.

The learners designed Christmas cards and wrote a personal piece about what Christmas meant to them inside the card.

The project demonstrated that there is a strong demand for community-based literacy programmes that offer culturally relevant learning approaches.

This partnership model could be replicated in other areas with Traveller communities ensure long-term impact.

This project was a collaboration between Kerry Education and Training Board and Kerry Travellers Health & Community Development Project.
