"It's a perfect course. I don't know what else can be done.” Quote from participant

This project provided literacy activities focusing on health, well-being, and social inclusion. Participants learnt English in non-classroom settings and explored activities in their local libraries. These activities included learning about Irish culture, willow weaving classes, and an outing to the Arthur Guinness Centre in Kildare.

The project took place in Maynooth between November and December 2023. Learners from Egypt, Somalia, Latvia, and Ukraine attended classes. An English tutor from KWETB adapted literacy classes for a library setting. Library staff taught learners how to access library resources online.

Learners greatly improved their English language skills and became involved in their communities.

"The group certainly seemed to enjoy all of the activities."- Quote from tutor

This project was the result of a collaboration between County Kildare Library Service and Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB).
