About this project

This project improved people’s understanding of the Irish healthcare system and their ability to use English to access healthcare services.  

The course combined English language learning with practical health literacy. It also allowed children to attend with their parents.

Galway city partnership collaborated with the Marie Keating foundation and Health Service Executive (HSE) staff to develop the 12-week course.

Content focused on health literacy and catered to adults with children living in Galway accommodation centres.

Five classes took place across three Galway city accommodation centres, amounting to 36 hours of tuition.
